It's softer than concrete pavers, so the base and setting method matter more. And it comes in natural variations of color and texture, so layout planning is critical for a result that looks intentional rather than random. Our process includes full excavation, compacted aggregate base, and a mortar or sand setting bed depending on the application. We select each piece for consistent color tone and thickness, dry-lay sections before setting to check the pattern, and finish with a penetrating sealer that protects against staining while maintaining the stone's natural, non-slip texture. Travertine's biggest advantage in Mesa is temperature — on a 110-degree day, travertine stays 20-30 degrees cooler than concrete.
